Bitcoin aSOPR

aSOPR (Adjusted SOPR) is a version of the regular SOPR calculation obtained by excluding UTXOs younger than 1 hour, reducing the noise from short-term exchange-internal/bot transactions. It's read the same way as SOPR: the 1.0 line is the profit/loss boundary.

What is it?

Adjusted SOPR - a version of regular SOPR obtained by excluding UTXOs younger than 1 hour (very short-term transactions treated as 'noise').

How is it calculated?

The same formula as SOPR (Value at Time of Spend / Value at Time of Creation), but only UTXOs older than 1 hour are included.

How to read it

Less noisy than raw SOPR - above 1.0 means the coins spent that day sold at an average profit, below means an average loss; touching/approaching the 1.0 line is read the same way as SOPR (support/resistance).

Things to watch out for

Reduces but does not fully eliminate the effect of short-term exchange-internal/bot activity - like SOPR, it's best read in its smoothed (moving-average) form.

Historical usage

aSOPR became a widely used refinement in the on-chain analyst community to reduce the noise coming from very short-term (under 1 hour) UTXO movements in raw SOPR - the reading logic stays identical to SOPR, only the input data is narrowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is aSOPR calculated differently from SOPR?

It uses the same formula as SOPR (Value at Time of Spend / Value at Time of Creation), but only includes UTXOs older than 1 hour - reducing the impact of very short-term exchange-internal/bot activity.

How do you read aSOPR?

Same logic as SOPR: above 1.0 means the coins spent that day sold at an average profit, below means an average loss. Approaching/touching the 1.0 line is interpreted the same way (support/resistance).

Does aSOPR remove noise completely?

No - it reduces the impact of short-term exchange-internal/bot activity but doesn't eliminate it entirely. Like SOPR, it's best read in its smoothed (moving-average) form.
