What is it?
The total amount of Bitcoin held by short-term holders - generally those who have held for less than 155 days.
How is it calculated?
Based on BRK's own coin-age cohort classification - the sum of the age bands under HODL Waves that are younger than roughly 155 days.
How to read it
Rising STH supply signals fresh capital entering the market (new buyer interest) - it typically expands in the early/middle stages of price rallies.
Things to watch out for
Whether a coin is 'STH' or 'LTH' is determined by its last move date - if an LTH coin is moved again (e.g. transferred between wallets), it immediately reclassifies as STH, even if it wasn't actually sold.
Historical usage
STH supply typically expands during strong rallies as new buyers enter the market; during declines/consolidation it typically shrinks as coins cross the 155-day threshold and 'graduate' into the LTH cohort.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is STH supply calculated?
It's the total BTC amount held in UTXOs that haven't moved for generally less than 155 days - classified according to BRK's own age threshold.
Why is STH supply tracked?
It shows the size of the short-term/speculative participant cohort in the market - read alongside LTH supply, it gives a clue about whether the market's participant base is 'fresh' or 'mature'.
How are STH supply and LTH supply related?
They're two complementary cohorts - a coin 'graduates' from the STH cohort to the LTH cohort once it crosses the 155-day threshold. The sum of the two is (approximately) equal to the total circulating supply.
